DUO ORPHEO
Antoine Saad - Violin
(chamber virtuoso)
Susanne Kowal - Piano
In the Wagner Year 2013, Duo Orpheo – well-known for their special programs – will
present to you true musical treasures and a premiere:
Famous melodies by Richard Wagner, adapted by violin virtuosos who partially acted
as concertmasters themselves at the Bayreuth Festival, and presented as intimate
chamber music.
These opera reductions were highly appreciated in the European music salons at the end of the 19th century and served to publicly introduce and disseminate Wagner's music.
The program includes paraphrases and songs from the operas "Siegfried", "Parsifal" and "The Mastersingers of Nuremberg", the wonderful Violin Romance from the
album sheet for piano by the German violin king August Wilhelmj, the "Spinning Song" from "The Flying Dutchman" from
the Russian, Michael Press, the "Dreams" from the Wesendonck - Lieder from the Hungarian, Leopold Auer,
and the "Große Tannhäuser-Fantasie" from the Bohemian, Frantisek Drdla.
The artists will frame the entire music program with background information on the adapters and arrangers as well as on Richard Wagner with episodes and anecdotes.
All Wagner friends among you should not miss this extraordinary program, masterfully interpreted by Duo Orpheo.
